- One leaker claims to know how many Google Pixel 6 updates will land for the phone.
- The leaker claims there will be security patches and four major Android upgrades for five years.
- If so, that would mean the Pixel 6 could see Android 16 in 2025.
We have learned so much about the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in the past few months. One of the first rumors we heard related to how many years of security patches the phones would see, which we think will last five years. Of course, security patches aren’t the same thing as upgrades to the full version of Android, and we’re in the dark all the time.
Fortunately, the frequent leaker “Snoopy” on Twitter claims to have the answer. According to the leaker, Google could deliver four Android upgrades in addition to the five years of Google Pixel 6 updates. In theory, that would mean the Pixel 6 would land on Android 12 and then see Android 13 in 2022, Android 14 in 2023, Android 15 in 2024, and Android 16 in 2025. It would then reach the end of its life in 2026 when it receives its last security patch.
Pixel 6 receives 4 operating system upgrades and 5 year security patches
“Snoopy” provided accurate information on various devices. Given their track record and how logical this setup seems, we’re inclined to believe that this is true. It’s still a leak, however, and should be treated with skepticism until Google confirms / disproves the news next week.
Speaking of which, we’ll know how many Google Pixel 6 updates there are now in less than a week. Google will launch the phones on Tuesday October 19th. The company won’t have many surprises in store because by this point we already know most of the details about the phones.
