There are many options available to you when it comes to enhancing the sound of your TV, but this can make it difficult to choose. The first thing you need to decide is whether or not you will get one Soundbar or a home theater system. Nothing goes above and beyond for the best possible performance AV receiver and a multispeaker Dolby Atmos Setup, but if you just want something simple and affordable, a soundbar is the answer.

Soundbars are compact and offer a lot of performance in an affordable package. You can even get those with advanced features like Atmos and Wi-Fi streaming. The only thing that isn’t usually possible is the ability to upgrade them – although some soundbars come with optional, separate subwoofers and rear speakers. If you really want to mix and match speakers, an AV receiver is for you.

Receivers offer a lot in a rather bulky box and, unlike soundbars, have numerous HDMI Inputs to accommodate many different sources. Being able to customize your system however you want can also be an exciting hobby. If you choose the home theater route, you don’t necessarily need a set of Surround sound speaker, at least not at first. I ran a Marantz A / V receiver in stereo with a pair of Bowers and Wilkins floorstanding speakers for about five years and didn’t feel like I was missing out.

Whichever route you choose – soundbars or AV systems – there should be something for you here. These are the best home theater systems available today. We will update this list regularly as we review new products.

When it comes to money, it doesn’t get much better than the Roku Streambar home theater system. This speaker offers both a conversational soundbar and an integrated 4K streamer in one package. If you want more bass or surround speakers, the system can also be upgraded. You can choose the speaker package.

The Klipsch Reference Theater Pack was originally available for $ 1,200 and is currently selling for a third of that. This set offers rich sound from a compact 5.1 channel sound system and is a perfect home theater option for apartments or playrooms. Great for movies and not bad for music either. Just add a recipient.

If there’s one thing we’re spoiled for choice for the affordable stereo speakers, and for $ 469, the 3030is bookshelf speaker does great movie and music playback. While the $ 350 Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2 are much cheaper and more transparent, the Q Acoustics are more balanced and have better bass response. This makes the 3030i more suitable for home theater situations, especially if you are not using a subwoofer.

While the Vizio Elevate’s rotating speakers are cool, this system doesn’t offer the best value for money within the company’s lineup. The Vizio M512a is a Dolby Atmos soundbar that includes a subwoofer and back channel speakers, making it a kind of hybrid between a receiver-based system and a soundbar. It also sounds amazing with music and movies for a hair under $ 500.

Aside from the fact that there is virtually no 8K video available right now, you can now buy 8K compatible receivers. While the models from Yamaha are still waiting for compatibility problems, Denon and Marantz receivers have been error-free since April. The $ 749 Denon AVR-S960H might not be the most exciting receiver out there, but it is the most solid choice if your future-proof is your thing. Note that this receiver is lagging behind in most places at the time of writing.

When you want the best Dolby Atmos performance from a single soundbar, nothing beats the Sennheiser Ambeo audio system. It’s not cheap and it’s not small, but if you want the best sound, this is it.
