  • Nintendo has finally enabled Bluetooth audio on the Switch.
  • Support comes via a system update for the consoles.

The Nintendo Switch has been a resounding success for the Japanese giant since its launch in March 2017, offering a hybrid home / handheld experience and loads of killer titles. It’s not perfect, however, and one of the biggest omissions for the longest time has been Bluetooth audio.

Fortunately, Nintendo just announced on Twitter that the latest Switch firmware update is finally bringing Bluetooth audio output. So you can finally pair your favorite bluetooth earbuds or headphones with the console.

There are a few caveats with this support, however, Nintendo says. For one thing, Bluetooth microphones are not supported. Another limitation is that only two wireless controllers can be paired when bluetooth audio is connected. The company adds that Bluetooth audio will be disconnected during local wireless communications, e.g. B. when starting a local multiplayer game.

Still, we’re excited to see Nintendo catching up with smartphones and the humble PlayStation Vita in terms of Bluetooth audio support. Still, one wonders why it took the company so long to implement it in the first place.
