When Sony announced the PS5, they also introduced a brand new controller, the DualSense. However, when Microsoft announced the Xbox Series X and S, the controller didn’t look too different. It looked like the one that came with the Xbox One, but with a few minor tweaks, nothing particularly exciting, and nothing that necessarily screams next-gen.
Those who thought Microsoft might have missed an opportunity will be pleased to learn that the company could try to fix it. During the latest episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer appeared to be suggesting that they might be looking for an updated version of their Xbox Series X and S controller.
According to Spencer, transcribed by VGC, “We are definitely thinking about different types of devices that can bring more games to more places. There is probably some work that we will be working on [the] Regulator. I think Sony did a good job with their controller, we’re going to take a look at some of this [and think] ‘Are there things we should be doing?’ “
When exactly this new controller will be launched is of course unclear. The Xbox Series X and S are less than a year old so maybe we shouldn’t expect to see an updated controller anytime soon, but either way, it’s something gamers can be on the lookout for.
