While games like Dance Dance Revolution and Beat Saber might make you sweat, technically they’re not practice games. For players who, like Lara Croft, want to get in shape with dungeon delving moves, there is another solution: The Playpulse One, an intelligent exercise bike that combines training device, game console and entertainment center in one.
The Playpulse One uses high-precision sensors in the pedals and handlebars to make pedaling a part of the game. It monitors your heart rate through the handlebars for measurable, accurate workout results. You will know how hard you trained and how many calories you burn after each game session.
It also has a 24-inch multi-touch computer and a dedicated graphics card, which the Playpulse One can use to fight online multiplayer without any problems. You can also compete against your friends and others online to make training a shared experience.
There are currently four compatible games (all built into the Unity engine), but more are in the pipeline. The Playpulse One doesn’t limit its experiences to just games – it’s packed with entertainment and fitness content. Users can even stream their favorite shows as long as they keep up the pace. If you slack off while exercising, the screen will go dark. Of course, this is an optional feature that can be turned off for those times when you want to sneak away to “exercise,” but all you really need to do is binge The Real Housewives.
Playpulse plans to release an open API in the future to allow third-party developers to create games for the platform. Several interesting titles are currently planned for launch. Pedaltanks is a multiplayer based flag game where you compete against other players, each playing in different tanks with different skills. Bumper cars are pretty self explanatory, except in space.
Heat Street is a racing game while Helios is a roguelite runner that allows you to explore different paths through space and avoid obstacles that come your way. You can stream your gameplay to the platform of your choice and even reach personal milestones. As more content is released, it will become available through the Playpulse Live subscription service. It’s included for free for six months when you buy a bike and then costs $ 20 a month.
The Playpulse One is available for pre-order now at a discounted price of $ 1,200. The standard retail price is $ 2,000.
