Instagram could make it a lot easier to switch between multiple accounts on iPhone.
Many of the folks at the popular social media service juggle two or more accounts, perhaps for personal and business matters, or those that focus on different personal interests.
Now the Facebook company is working on a widget for the home screen that allows you to quickly select a specific Instagram account before you even open the app, according to Silicon Valley insider and celebrity leaker Alessandro Paluzzi.
Paluzzi shared a series of images this week showing different versions of the widget, which has enough space to switch between up to four Instagram accounts with a single tap.
To switch between accounts, you currently need to tap the profile button in the lower right corner of the display to go to your profile, then tap your username at the top of the display and finally select the account you want to access. On newer iPhones, it’s also possible to long-press the profile button to view your various accounts.
While the current method of switching accounts isn’t particularly tedious, the widget-based method could prove to be a lot smoother and more efficient. In addition, instead of opening the Instagram app first and then selecting a different account, you can jump straight into your desired account.
It should be noted that it appears that the feature is currently in the build phase, which means it may never see the light of day. There is a good chance it will move into public testing, however, and if that goes well it could become a staple of Instagram for the iPhone. We’ll keep you up to date.
