For strangers, Apple’s HomePod is powered by tvOS, the same operating system that powers Apple TV. However, could Apple consider giving the HomePod its own platform? According to a job advertisement from developer Javier Lacort, this could well be the case.
According to the vacancy, a Senior iOS Engineer for Apple Music is in demand. It reads, “You’ll work with Apple systems engineers, learn the insides of iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and homeOS, and optimize your code for performance in ways only Apple can. Join our team and make a real difference for music lovers worldwide. “
The description has since been updated, removing “homeOS” and replacing it with HomePod. We are not sure whether the reference to homeOS was made incorrectly or whether Apple did not want to disclose this yet. We’ve heard rumors that Apple might come up with some interesting HomePod models, such as one that combines the HomePod and Apple TV.
We also heard that there could be one model with a display and another with a robotic arm. Assuming more models are in the works, it’s possible Apple might want to create a dedicated platform for it instead of sharing tvOS, but we won’t know for sure until that’s announced. WWDC starts next week so hopefully we have more details.
