Today Amazon announced that Prime Day 2021 will take place on June 21st and 22nd. The event is expected to be the largest Amazon sales event of the year, with hundreds of Prime Day deals expected.
Prime Day is Amazon’s exclusive shopping holiday. In terms of savings potential, the event can compete with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The event is getting bigger and bigger every year, so we have high expectations for 2021.
Historically, since its debut in 2015, the shopping event has been happening in July. Amazon has not disclosed a reason to postpone the date to June this year. Last year, Amazon postponed Prime Day to October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though the shopping event happened just a month before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the internet-wide shopping events, Amazon broke its own sales records on Prime Day. They did not disclose their total sales during the event other than that consumers saved a total of $ 1.4 billion.
The Echo Dot was the most popular item bought last year. Amazon had just released the 4th generation Dot that same month. Amazon devices are historically popular during Prime Day events for obvious reasons. So expect Prime Day Echo deals, Prime Day Fire TV deals, and Prime Day Kindle deals, to name a few.
Other retailers are expected to post their own same day sales to compete with Amazon. Last year, Best Buy and Walmart both had sales that overlapped with Prime Day.
Don’t forget to buy a gift for your father! Father’s Day is June 20th this year, one day before Prime Day. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean steep discounts on gifts if dad should have them on the day of unpacking. Our Father’s Day gift guide is designed to show you a few options.
